There’s a reason so many couples dream of getting married at The Ryland Inn. Tucked into Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, it has that rare combination of elegance and warmth — manicured grounds, timeless architecture, and a kind of quiet romance that photographs beautifully in every kind of light. It was the perfect backdrop for Katie and Dominic’s wedding day, a celebration filled with old friends, longtime family ties, and a whole lot of love.
How They Met
Katie and Dominic’s story didn’t start with a swipe or a setup — it started on the ball field. Dominic played ball with Katie’s brother, and that connection brought him into her world long before they ever became a couple. They were friends first, for years, the kind of friendship built on family barbecues and mutual friend groups, before it quietly turned into something more.
That history was written all over their wedding day. Their families have been friends for years, and it showed in the easy, joyful way everyone at the Ryland Inn treated each other like family — because in so many ways, they already were.
Getting to Know Them at Spring Lake
We first got to spend real time with Katie and Dominic during their engagement session in Spring Lake, NJ, and it didn’t take long to see it: these two are each other’s best friends. They were completely at ease in front of the camera, laughing and leaning into each other like it was the easiest thing in the world. When we asked them about it afterward, they said it was simply how we made them feel — comfortable enough to just be themselves. That same ease carried right through to their wedding day at the Ryland Inn.
Getting Ready
Katie chose to get ready at her mom and dad’s house before heading to the Ryland Inn, and it made for one of our favorite parts of the morning. Her mom had one request: she wanted to watch Katie come down the staircase in her gown, just as she’d probably always imagined. It’s a small detail, but it’s the kind of moment that makes a wedding day feel like it belongs entirely to the family celebrating it.

A Ceremony Full of Meaning
Katie and Dominic said their vows in the church Katie grew up attending — the same one connected to the school she attended as a child. There’s something so grounding about getting married in a place that’s been part of your whole life story, surrounded by decades of memories before you even add a wedding day to the list.
The Reception at The Ryland Inn
If the ceremony was quiet and meaningful, the reception at the Ryland Inn was pure celebration. With a bridal party twenty groomsmen strong (Dominic, it turns out, has no shortage of friends), the energy in the room was electric from the very first toast. The speeches were wonderful — heartfelt, funny, the kind that has an entire ballroom laughing and reaching for tissues in the same five minutes.
And the dance floor? It was so packed all night that we could barely squeeze in to get photos. Which, honestly, is exactly the kind of “problem” we love to have as wedding photographers — it means everyone in the room showed up to celebrate Katie and Dominic exactly the way they deserved.

Whitehouse Station’s Ryland Inn continues to be one of our favorite New Jersey wedding venues to shoot — the grounds offer beautiful natural light for portraits, and the ballroom brings just the right mix of classic elegance and room to really celebrate. For a couple like Katie and Dominic, surrounded by twenty groomsmen and a lifetime of family friendships, it was exactly the kind of space that could hold all that love and energy.
