Coffee Lover or Coffee Snob

So here is the question? How many times do you hear people say "I am such a coffee snob"? Myself included.  For the longest time, I have been drinking Dunkin Donuts coffee. Now some will say, "How can you be a coffee snob with Dunkin"? Maybe they can understand Starbucks or some of the fancier lines of coffee brands but Dunkin is pretty ordinary.

So this leads me to the conclusion that I just love the taste of coffee, not for the caffeine, (I only can drink decaf, just taste and aroma.  I don't care for Starbucks and most of the supermarket brands I don't like at all. So yes, I am incredibly picky or some would say a coffee snob.

This is the scale that we use and we measure in grams.  If you have any scale around the house that measures in grams it will be fine to use.

This is the scale that we use and we measure in grams.  If you have any scale around the house that measures in grams it will be fine to use.

Here is the thing, my son, who is a guy who loves coffee to the point of measuring, grinding, and just about everything else you need to do to the beans to make the best cup of coffee ever, has had a very strong influence on me lately. I have seen him buy the expensive beans such as companies like Stumptown, Intelligentsia and a few other awesome companies.  Watching him, measure, boil, grind, and time the rate of how fast the water goes through the carafe, (this is a process called pour over).  I am thinking how could all of this time be worth it? Now I am talking months of observing him doing this! He only drinks regular so I was reluctant to drink the caffeinated coffee to try it out.

So here is a photo of our arsenal! The scale, the scooper to measure out the beans, the grinder is in the background. We actually have a really fast electric one but I just used this one today because it is easier to photograph (this is a hand one w…

So here is a photo of our arsenal! The scale, the scooper to measure out the beans, the grinder is in the background. We actually have a really fast electric one but I just used this one today because it is easier to photograph (this is a hand one which is a little tough to use for me to use). The kettle on the right is awesome to do pour overs with because you can control the amount of water coming out. You really want to pour nice and slow.  The carafe is in the middle and the filter is placed on top.

Months had passed, and my daughter was here visiting and she asked if I would make the coffee for her that her brother raves about.  Mind you, I had to go purely on memory watching him make it everyday thinking I could do this.  I gave it my best shot and I actually was able to produce a great cup of coffee for her from memory. While brewing it myself, the aroma was so aromatic and inviting that I was tempted to try some regardless of the fact that it was caffeinated.    That is all it took! A few sips and I now am hooked and convinced that this is the way to enjoy  a real cup of Joe! So now, I do go and buy myself the expensive beans (around $18.00 a bag) which was a big jump from buying the three pound deal from Dunkin for about $20.00.

So here we will now grind the beans and then the coffee will be placed in the filter on top of the carafe.

Once the beans are ground, you then will place the coffee in the filter and take the boiled water and pour slowly over the grounds. After the correct amount of water is poured it is complete and ready to enjoy.

Do I still drink the Dunkin and go their every afternoon?  Well maybe not every afternoon, but yes I do still go alot.  As much as I LOVE the pour over method and the expensive beans, I do not indulge regularly.  I also like the morning coffee to be ready to go as soon as I am up for the day. I do enjoy the whole process of preparing the coffee when I have time. I believe this is an art all of its own.  Not one hard to accomplish by any means, but you first have to have the gear like everything else which adds up to quite a bit of money. Being a photographer, I totally need the right gear to get that beautiful end result and it is the same thing with just about everything we do.

Here I am actually trying to pour the water and take the photo at the same time! Not as easy as I thought.  In the beginning, you just pour a bit to get the grinds to really soak up the water. Also you can download the app from intelligentsia a…

Here I am actually trying to pour the water and take the photo at the same time! Not as easy as I thought.  In the beginning, you just pour a bit to get the grinds to really soak up the water. Also you can download the app from intelligentsia and it will help you follow the directions perfectly as far as the timing of how long and how much water and coffee beans to use.

So I guess I am coming to the conclusion that I am not a coffee snob ,  but more like a total coffee lover who has acquired a fine taste in coffee. Just like people that like fine wines,  I think they just love wine and enjoy the really great stuff!

Here is the end result! So pull up a chair and a favorite magazine, add a little biscotti and enjoy!

So there you have it!  What is your opinion on this subject? Would love to hear your thoughts and find out just what you all are drinking in the coffee world! Thanks for stopping by............

Pretty Little Details

Details...........what makes them so special?  Years ago, when I got married, the photographers never even focused on any details.  That was the norm for then. Today, it is always about the pretty little details as I love to refer to them. I  am so excited that as a wedding photographer, I can really spend lots of time capturing the details of the wedding day for my couple.

When I started my wedding business,  I wanted to take beautiful images of the wedding dress, the rings, the shoes etc.  To allow enough time I decided to ask the brides for permission to arrange about an hour several days prior to their wedding day. During that time I would go to their homes to get the detail images that I love.  Of course, this is usually only when the bride lives fairly close to me. I knew if I could have that extra hour without distractions on the actual day,  I would be able to create several different scenarios for each item that I was photographing.  I just love to find an opportunity to be different when I can!  I also love the invitation part of the whole wedding.  I usually receive the invitation when they are sent out to guests. This insures that I can do some fun and creative things with them.

This beautiful image was created from an arrangement of flowers I received from my daughter for Mother's Day.  Once the flowers were just about finished I crumpled them up and used them to frame Kasey and Jamie's lovely invitation.

My other favorite thing to do is the ring shot.  Here I like to use just things that I have collected from Michael's art supplies, such as sparkly paper, bracelets, little memo pads which is used in the photograph below. I also will use a mirror for some shots, laying the ring flat on the mirror and putting something colorful behind it to catch the colors of anything from a greeting card or to a print of one of my photographs of flowers etc. I love to use sparkly bracelets for this type of shot because of the beautiful bokeh you can create with a shallow depth of field. I place about two crystal bracelets directly behind the ring on the mirror. Just be creative and use your imagination.  Most of the time, I find things that just catch my eye in the case of these little memo pads.

Here are some of my pretty little helpers when creating the image.  The ring is sitting on top of these little memo pads I found in Pier 1 imports!

So now we move on to the DRESS! My favorite I think.  For Kasey's dress, I knew exactly where I wanted to create her special image.  She loves the woods and the outdoors, so when I saw the spot I knew it was perfect. I actually had to leave a business card for  the homeowner and ask permission if I could shoot the dress there.  She gladly responded with a yes! A few days before the wedding, I took the dress with an assistant and very carefully hung the dress and captured this!!  So over time, I have come to be known for my dresses in trees if you will!  Whenever there is a tree close by, there I will be with ladder and hanger ready to hang it.

This is the finished product and I could not have been more pleased!

So now I hope you can see why I love to go a little out of the way for a wedding!  I truly love to make every wedding unique and different from the others, because lets face it, we are all unique and different.  I want their wedding photographs to tell their story. It gives me great pleasure to know that my brides are completely thrilled when they open their gallery for the first time!

I hope you enjoyed this little window into capturing all of the details!

Brothers (New Jersey Family Photographer)

Boys will be boys and these two are certainly all of that! We had so much fun exploring the land and just catching the children playing and living life as usual.  I love the ability to be totally photojournalistic on so many of my sessions.  With little ones, it is truly the greatest capture.

How do you pose an 18 month old and a 2 1/2 year old you ask? You don't!  You let them be themselves and have fun!  They were clearly fun and adorable I might add!

Luke (New Jersey Family Photographer)

Luke is six months old and is all boy!! He has just mastered sitting up all by himself.  He makes the cutest faces all of the time and not always smiling.  Those are my favorites!

Christopher's One Year Cake Smash (New Jersey Family Photographer)

Can I mention how much I LOVE cake smashes! They are a total delight to me. It could be because my kids are grown and I just love this stage in a child's life. I think I had more fun today than Christopher did!

He really was not ready for this.  He was a little nervous at first and then slowly he dug into his beautiful very messy navy blue icing cake. Yes, that is right, navy blue.  Who knew it would be that messy.  I think that is what made it more fun, but maybe ask his parents that same question.

All in all I am in love with these photographs and his expressions are priceless.  We sure made some memories and lots of mess today!

Happy birthday little guy!

Sisterhood (New Jersey Family Photographer)

Sisterhood is a very special thing.  I myself have three amazing sisters and although growing up was a little challenging at times between who has your clothes, your makeup and the list goes on, it truly is such a blessing especially being grown up now and being so close to my sisters.

Today I had the privilege of photographing these two beauties.  We wanted a beautiful backdrop for our session and picked Jockey Hollow for our location.

Girls, you are blessed to have each other and I so enjoyed our time together.

The Curialle Family (New Jersey Family Photographer)

This family I have photographed several times and it is always a session filled with lots of fun and laughter.  They are just adorable and the children really love each other.  The beach was a beautiful setting to let them run and just be kids.  Capturing these special moments in a family's life is so special!

The Pontes Family

This family is very special to me.  I am wonderful friends with Nancy and have known her for several years.  It was such a joy to do our second photo session this past fall.

The children are so sweet and beautiful and I just love how they love each other. They are so adorably photogenic I can't take it!

Frosting and Flannels Fashion Blogger (New Jersey Fashion Photographer)

I have known this pretty young thing for about five years.  I have watched her grow and change in so many ways. She is beyond gifted as an artist and is totally amazing at fashion.  She has now started her own fashion blog called Frosting and flannels where you can follow her on instagram.

She contacted me and asked if I would like to do the photo sessions for her blog and I immediately fell in LOVE with the idea.  It is so wonderful to be able to photograph many different genres of photography and adding fashion to the list, well I was ecstatic. Victoria and I have so much fun on our shoots laughing and joking and we actually get some work done!

By the way, she made the most beautiful ugly Christmas sweater ever and even won a prize for it!

John Michael (New Jersey Newborn Photographer)

John was the sweetest newborn ever.  He was quite the big boy at birth weighing close to twelve pounds. What a sweet gentle spirit in this precious little boy.  He slept for his newborn session, well as long as we didn't move him at all! My favorites are the sleepy smiles we captured. Congratulations on this precious little guy.

Curialle Christmas (New Jersey Family Photographer)

Here we are again. Returning to do this precious family's Christmas session was a pure delight. We actually had been blessed with a very warm day here in New Jersey mid December. I think it was 55 degrees this day.

Christopher has just woken up from his nap and he was not as jolly as he normally is, but with this child, his not so jolly is someone else's normal jolly. That is just how happy he is all the time. They are a happy bunch and it sure shows in their images. Merry Christmas guys!

Joel J (New Jersey Newborn Photographer)

I have had the privilege of knowing Seth for a long time. He spent many days at our home as he is our son's best friend.  When I found out that he was going to marry Bethany I did an engagement session as their gift for them.  Little did I know back then that I would also be photographing their wedding! It was such a joy to be there for all of their special days!  This past year when I found out they were expecting their first child, I was delighted that I had the chance to photograph their precious son Joel. This little guy was the sweetest and quietest little church mouse ever. Love you guys!

Harper (New Jersey Newborn Photographer)

Harper is all of ten days young.  She is the sweetest little thing and does not cry much, but she does not sleep much either.  She clearly wanted to stay awake all through her newborn session. We managed to steal a few beautiful moments!

Lindsey + Jeremy's Brooklyn Engagement (New Jersey Engagement Photographer)

Lindsey and Jeremy had met ten years ago briefly while attending a summer camp that both their families would go to each summer.  Lindsey being a bit older back then, she being 18 and Jeremy 15, they really did not hang in the same crowd.  So it was no wonder they never really met again after that one time.

Jeremy went to college and afterward moved into NYC.  Lindsey had attended college in Dumbo, Brooklyn where she was studying to be a speech pathologist.  Everyday on her way to school she would pass by these beautiful streets and thought that some day she would love to do her engagement session right here.

Jeremy happened to see Lindsey's name pop up on facebook some ten years after their initial meeting and thought that he would reach out to her and see if she would remember him.  Sure enough she did and they planned a time to get dinner together.  They had many years to catch up on so the evening was spent chatting about the old times they had at their family's mutual summer camp and also what they have been doing for ten years!

Their romance happened pretty quickly and they spent time together doing the things they both found they had in common. About two years after their reunion, Jeremy asked LIndsey to be his wife.  Lindsey said yes and the preparations began.  Of course, Lindsey told Jeremy where she would like to have their engagement session so we returned together to capture some beautiful images along the streets Lindsey use to dream about.

Their wedding will be at the lovely Park Savoy in Florham Park, New Jersey this coming September.

Sacha + Ricardo's Brooklyn Engagement (New Jersey Engagement Photographer)

Ricardo and Sacha initially met at the Jersey Shore several years ago.  They had their mutual friends and would spend time together, but their relationship did not start until 12 years later.

They both have a love for great food and fantastic red wine and are always excited to try out new restuarants.  When they are not dining out, you will find Ricardo in the kitchen always preparing and cooking up something fantastic! Sacha loves to assist.  Seeing they love good food, they also spend time working out and staying active.  They love to travel and are so excited to be spending their honeymoon in South Africa.

It was Sacha's birthday and Ricardo recommended they meet for a drink at the Bowery Hotel before dinner.  While sitting at the bar Ricardo got down on one knee and asked Sacha to be his wife! As Sacha was trying to send a picture of her ring to her best friend, to her surprise in walked many of their friends and family.  Ricardo had everything planned. It was more like a little engagement party than just dinner.  It was the most beautiful birthday gift to receive.

When I met Sacha and Ricardo and we discussed where they would like to do their engagement session, they immediately knew where they wanted to go. They both were raised in Brooklyn, Ricardo grew up in Carroll Gardens, which is close to Brooklyn Heights where we had the session. Sacha's parents had lived in the area before she was born and she regularly visited the area.  Over the years, she fell in love with the Promonade. With the gorgeous sunsets along the Promonade and the pretty NYC skyline, it was the perfect setting for their session.

This beautiful couple chose the Brooklyn Winery to celebrate their wedding day in May 2016.

Morgan + Pam's Loantaka Park Engagement (New Jersey Engagement Photographer)

Pam's mother would always tell her, "keep your heart open for you never know when love it going to come in". After 10 years of being a single parent and raising three children, well the advice seemed a little far fetched to her at the time. Between working full time and raising three very busy children, where could she find the time. She clearly dated over the years but always found that most men did not want the burden of a family. She told her mom she was open but did not think it would happen.................in walks Morgan.

Pam needed a picture for linkedin for her work so she thought she would put up a photo on Christian Mingle.  She did have two dates in the month that she was on the site but nothing came of them. Finally after the first subscription ran out, she decided to try it for another three months. As soon as she renewed, she received an email from a gentleman by the name of Morgan who lived locally. She was immediately attracted to him by his good looks and how sincere he seemed by reading his profile. Pam replied back and they exchanged several emails before setting a day that next week to meet.

They met at Starbucks for a coffee. She saw him immediately sitting across the room and recognized him immediately from his profile picture.  They spent about an hour getting to know one another. One question he asked her during their date was "would she ever consider getting married again"? She found it odd at first, but realized how important that question was for her, seeing all the other dates she had been on did not really want that.

They ended their evening and Morgan asked if he could see her again.  They went on several more dates and they were growing close.  At this point, Pam thought that it might be too much right now starting a serious relationship, but she was soon told by everyone that she would be crazy to let Morgan go!

They dated for two years before he asked to marry her.  With tears in his eyes, Morgan confessed that he had never felt so loved by anyone before and that she was the one he had been looking for all of these years.

They are now ready to have a beautiful wedding this July 2016 joined by their six children and by all those that love them. Their children will be their bridal party which I think is the cutest thing ever! They will be married on the beach at McLoone's Restaurant located in Long Branch, New Jersey.  I cannot wait for their beautiful wedding!
